1.1 SHARED VISION

1.1 Shared Vision
Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership.

The AdvancEd artifact is a school wide self assessment tool that I, along with other members of the leadership team, worked to complete at the school where I worked last school year. This self assessment tool was used by us at the school to determine where we stood on the different standards of AdvancEd. I worked with other members of the leadership team to go over each standard and assess where our school stood on each of them, and how we could improve our performance on each standard.

This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 1.1: candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. When working with the leadership team to complete this assessment we had to look at our school through the eyes of each standard. As the artifact shows the standards cover many different topics, including having a collective purpose and direction, which is the same as a vision, and having and using appropriate technology to meet that purpose and direction. Those of us on the leadership team carefully looked at each of these standards, assessed whether our school currently met those standards, and came up with a plan on how to improve our performance in each of those areas. By doing this we were effectively coming up with a shared vision for our school in many different areas, including the are of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership.

By completing this artifact with my school's leadership team I learned a great deal. I learned that people can often see the same thing in very different ways. When assessing our school on these different standards we often had very different opinions about how well our school implemented different things. We were able to discuss our different perspectives and learn from each other. I also learned that there is always room for improvement, especially when it comes to technology in education. One thing I would change about this artifact is that I would add an overall vision statement for our school based on everything we learned through conducting the assessment.

The work that went into completing this artifact impacted school improvement, faculty development, and student learning. By completing this assessment we came up with ways to improve our school in many different areas, some of these areas were directly related to faculty development and student learning. This impact can be measured by completing this assessment again at the end of this school year, and measuring the gains made in each area.
