1.2 STRATEGIC PLANNING

Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans.

The AdvancEd Standard 4 artifact is part of the AdvancEd self assessment that I participated in completing with my school's leadership team. I worked with the other members of the leadership team to fill out the self assessment. This artifact only contains standard 4 of the assessment tool, because that is the standard that specifically addresses the school's use of technology.

This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 1.2: candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans. When completing this self assessment I, along with the rest of the leadership team, evaluated the school's current use of technology, and came up with a plan to improve the use of technology throughout the school. We looked at areas of strength and weakness regarding technology, and its implementation throughout our school. We then came up with specific ways to improve the use of our current technology, and to obtain and utilize new technology. By completing this self assessment we evaluated our technology needs, and then developed a way to implement the plan to better meet those needs.

Developing this artifact taught me that technology in education is more complex than just ensuring that students are utilizing technological devices. We had a lot of devices at our disposal at this school. However, through completing this assessment I realized that those devices were not necessarily being utilized in the most effective way. One way I would change this artifact would be to have the entire school faculty participate in completing the assessment, instead of just the leadership team. This would ensure that we were taking into account the perspectives of every faculty member, instead of just the members of the leadership team.

The work that went into creating this artifact impacted school improvement, faculty development, and student learning. By completing this self assessment we, members of the faculty, were assessing how our school, and in extension how we ourselves could better meet the needs of our students, and ensure that we were meeting their learning needs in every way possible. This impact could be assessed by completing this assessment tool again at the end of the next school year, and noting any gains or deficits.
